Believe and Love

“And this is His order (His command, His injunction): that we should believe in (put our faith and trust in and adhere to and rely on) the Name of His Son Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and that we should love one another, just as He has commanded us.” (I John 3:23)

Believe and Love. These two verbs are way easier said than done. Yet because He has commanded us to do them, they are not impossible. Believing God’s promises requires faith and trust in His love and goodwill to us. It goes further to mean to adhere to, which is to stick like glue and to rely on. Believing with your head is one thing, but to actually rely on God with confidence that He will do what He says is hard when it seems like the whole world is falling apart around you.

That is where faith comes in. Believing anyway! What about love? This is a tough thing when you are being bullied at school or work; when your spouse puts you down all the time; when your best friend has betrayed you or even when other Christians persecute you for what you believe.

Remember, this love is not human love. It is God’s love–agape–which loves anyway. When you feel hate welling up inside, begin to pray for that person. It’s hard to hate someone you are praying for. You’ll see God will start turning things around. Believe God anyway…and love people anyway! That is faith in action!

Blessings everyone…
