“For the true love of God is this: that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive or grievous). For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.” (I John 5:3-4)
True love. This is the key. True love demonstrates itself. For example, if a man or woman says they love their spouse, but cheat on them or are abusive to them, is that true love? Their actions don’t demonstrate that they truly love them. So too with God. We say we love Him, but do our actions demonstrate it?
What are His commands? That we put Him first in our lives and that we love others like we love ourselves. If we truly love Him, these orders aren’t hard to do. When we do these things we demonstrate to the world that we belong to Him.
When you truly love someone, you are looking out for them, you have their back and you want what is best for them. You are willing to sacrifice your desires and wants and even your needs to see that they get the best. If He is first in our lives, then time spent with Him is a priority and time spent in His Word is a priority. Looking for opportunities to help others is in the forefront of our minds.
When we all get to this point, our lives will be victorious in ways we can’t even imagine. We can walk in victory over problems we thought were impossible to overcome.
