“Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust also in Him and He will bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:3-5)
There are several verbs in this passage that are key to gaining the victory in your life.
Trust in the Lord. Lean on Him, rely on Him and be confident in Him. Easy to say but sometimes hard to do. Leaning on someone is trusting they won’t reject you. Relying on someone is being sure they will do what they say. Trust is having confidence in that person’s willingness and ability to help.
Do good. Doing good is a natural outflow of your relationship with the Lord. When you trust Him and your relationship becomes closer and closer, your actions are going to reflect it. You are going to do what is good in His sight. You are going to be kind to others. You are going to help those in need. You begin to take on His characteristics because that is what He does. As you give out, He will ensure that you are well fed and satisfied. That you will “feed on His righteousness.”
Delight yourself in the Lord. What does it mean to delight yourself in the Lord? How would you act if you walked out your front door and saw a brand new Corvette? You would pour yourself into that car! Driving it, washing it, waxing it and maintaining the quality of it. You do that because you delight in that car. That is the way you delight yourself in the Lord. You pour yourself into Him. You seek Him out actively every day. Talking with Him, learning about Him through His Word and maintaining your relationship through prayer to Him.
What will happen when you put all of these “verbs” together? He will look into your heart and see the unspoken dreams and hopes that no one knows about. Because you delight in Him, He will work to give them to you. As you become more confident in His faithfulness, you will be able to fully commit your ways to Him knowing in your heart He WILL bring it to pass!
Don’t know Him?
