In the Middle of the Fire

“If our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up! (Daniel 3:17-18)

“Then Nebuchadnezzar the king saw and was astounded, and he jumped up and said to his counselors, Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered, True, O king. He answered, Behold, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt! And the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods! Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and said, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God, come out and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the midst of the fire.” (Daniel 3:24-26)

It is natural for us to hope and believe that we won’t ever have to encounter terrible trials and choices. But God never promises that. To the contrary, He promises to be with us IN them. He says, WHEN you pass through the waters, they won’t overflow you and WHEN you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” (Isaiah 43:2)

These three guys were told to give up their God and worship the image of a man instead. They refused and had to look death square in the eyes. How did they do this without caving in? That’s a hard thing to face a painful death! They had already made up their minds whose side they were on. They were prepared to die if God chose not to deliver them. They would still believe in Him and love Him.

Right there in the middle of the fire Jesus came to them. The Bible says to “count it all joy when you encounter fiery trials and temptations.” It’s in the fire that gold is refined to its purest form. It’s in the fire that the most beautiful ceramics are formed.

If you are in the middle of a fiery trial, take heart today because if you know Jesus, you are not alone. It’s in the fire that God is forming YOU into something beautiful and powerful!

Blessings everyone…
