Seasons

 

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born and a time to die
A time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted
A time to kill and a time to heal
A time to break down and a time to build up
A time to weep and a time to laugh
A time to mourn and a time to dance
A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together
A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing
A time to get and a time to lose
A time to keep and a time to cast away
A time to rend and a time to sew
A time to keep silence and a time to speak
A time to love and a time to hate
A time for war and a time for peace

I have seen the painful labor and exertion and miserable business which God has given to the sons of men with which to exercise and busy themselves. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-11)

The kingdom of God is full of seasons. Time itself is seasonal. The scriptures say “this too shall pass.” Even though our labors on this earth can be painful and even miserable at times, God can and will make it beautiful in its time.

Look at a beautiful summer garden. Does it just appear that way? No, it represents a LOT of hard and painful labor. The ground has to be tilled and fertilized. It has to be formed into rows, the seeds planted. Then watered every day, weeded every day and pruned as needed. In the end, though it yields a wonderful harvest of food that can be shared among men. A summer garden is seasonal. The hard and painful labor passes until the next season.

We all go through seasons of plenty and seasons of want. Seasons of ease and seasons of striving. Yet through it all the Lord is there to walk with us through it. He never promised us a life of ease, but He did promise us that we can overcome all adversity because He overcame the world!

Today, wherever you are at in the season of life–painful labor or harvest time–God is making it beautiful in its time. The scripture says “All things work together for our good, who love the Lord.”
