“[Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [enslaving] yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house–when you see the naked, that you cover him, and that you hide not yourself from the needs of your own flesh and blood?
“Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.” (Isaiah 58:6-8)
There is a saying that says “what you make happen for somebody else, God will make happen for you.” This scripture bears that principle out beautifully. A life lived helping others achieve their dreams and needs is a life full of the blessings of God.
Every day that we wake up, we have lots of opportunities to be a blessing to someone less fortunate and we pass them by not even realizing how bad things are for them. True Christianity is very active and it is out in the highways and byways moving in and out of people’s lives.
It’s very difficult to take on other people’s problems. To help a homeless person get re-established in society takes a lot of work. Visiting an elderly person may not seem like a big deal to your or I but we may be the only human being they see that week. When we take the time to give out to others, God sees it and He rewards it in a multitude of ways that is way more valuable that money!
I’ve seen videos on the Internet of people helping others and being kind to strangers. They call it “pay it forward.” The Bible says “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Start today: ask the Lord to use you to bless someone some way, no matter if it’s just a warm smile. Pay it forward…
