“I know your record and what you are doing, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your recent works are more numerous than your first ones.
But I have this against you: that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess [claiming to be inspired], and who is teaching and leading astray my servants and beguiling them into practicing sexual vice and eating food sacrificed to idols.
I gave her time to repent, but she has no desire to repent of her immorality [symbolic of idolatry] and refuses to do so. Take note: I will throw her on a bed of anguish, and those who commit adultery with her (her paramours). I will bring down to pressing distress and severe affliction, unless they turn away their minds from conduct such as hers and repent of their doings.
And I will strike her children (her proper followers) dead [thoroughly exterminating them]. And all the assemblies (churches) shall recognize and understand that I AM He Who searches minds (the thoughts, feelings and purposes) and the inmost hearts, and I will give to each of you the reward for what you have done, as your works deserve.
But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who h ave not explored and known the depths of Satan, as they say–I tell you that I do not lay upon you any other burden. Only hold fast to what you have until I come.
And he who overcomes (is victorious) and who obeys My commands to the very end [doing the works that please Me], I will give him authority and power over nations; and he shall rule them with a sceptre (rod) of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, and his power over them shall be like that which I Myself have received from My Father; And I will give him the Morning Star.
He who is able to hear, let him listen to and heed what the Holy Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 2:19-29)
Like Pergamum, Thyatira was doing great things for God except that one person was sowing tares among the wheat. Jezebel was the very wicked queen of Israel along with her husband Ahab. She was a Baal high priestess. She did not tolerate God. She had all the prophets of God killed that she could find. She caused the people to turn away from God into idol worship. God is a jealous God. He cannot tolerate any modern-day “Jezebel” in His Church.
As you can see from this passage of scripture that Jesus feels very strongly about the teaching and influence of a Jezebel in a church. Believe me, just about every church has that spirit operating in it through one or more people. His Word is very emphatic against any tolerance of Jezebel teachings. Also like Peragmum, these folks were dabbling not only in sexual sin, but in the occult as well. Jezebel was a witch..literally she was a witch. Jezebel was a seductress and she was a total control freak.
How does this relate to today’s modern-day church? How does a modern-day church tolerate Jezebel? Anyone who comes into a church to starting teachings that go against the Word of God–that lead people to shipwreck their faith–is operating through the Jezebel spirit. When the leadership is tolerating the teachings or is actively participating in the teachings–that is what riles Jesus up. He will not tolerate Jezebel. He will give time to repent, but if not judgment will come to that church. Remember: judgment begins at the house of God. He always starts with those who profess to belong to Him.
These days, He is separating the wheat from the tares. Those who really belong to Him are going to stand out and those who don’t will blend in with the rest of the world. I know the past few days the posts out here have been hard, but you know what? It’s these very times that is causing God to send out warnings to His people to abandon the world and run to Him like never before. It’s that critical! It’s a call to repentance because the shaking of the nations is coming and those whose foundation is in God will weather it and those who have built on sand will be shaken. Listen to what the Spirit is saying: REPENT AND RETURN TO ME!
