“We are writing about the Word of Life in Him Who existed from the beginning, Whom we have heard, Whom we have seen with our own eyes, Whom we have gazed upon for ourselves and have touched with our own hands.
And the Life was revealed (made manifest, demonstrated), and we saw as eyewitnesses and are testifying to and declare to you the Life, the eternal Life in Him Who already existed with the Father and Who actually was made visible (was revealed) to us His followers.
What we have seen and ourselves heard, we are also telling you, so that you too may realize and enjoy fellowship as partners and partakers with us. And this fellowship that we have which is a distinguishing mark of Christians is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
And we are now writing these things to you so that our joy in seeing you included maybe full and your joy may be complete. And this is the message of the promise which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all, no not in any way.” (I John 1:1-5)
There is a distinguishing mark on true followers of Jesus Christ. What defines a true follower of Jesus Christ? One word: RELATIONSHIP. Relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and the bonds of fellowship among other believers.
It is the Light of the Father, which is pure love. Love is what sets believers apart from religion. There is abundance of LIFE in true Christianity. This light comes from the deepest part of spirit and radiates out into the world around us.
When a congregation of true believers comes together, there is such an air of excitement and expectation in the air. Sadly, this has been lost in so many churches today. But there are groups of like-minded believers that come together for one purpose: to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. This unified purpose brings the power and the presence of God like nothing else!
That is when miracles start happening. Lives are changed forever in just a few minutes. Life in the Spirit is the most fulfilling life anyone can ever live. Why? Because you are part of something really, really BIG. Everybody wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves. To give out instead of taking all the time.
Look around, you’ll see the ones with that distinguishing mark. You’ll see it in their eyes and their smiles and their love. The fruit of the Spirit is evident in them. The mark of the Lamb is LOVE. They will know we are Christians by our LOVE. We are bound to love–it is our number one commandment from our Lord Jesus Christ.
If you are a Christian and you are reading this, examine your life and take stock of the level of the God-love you have. If it’s low, pursue the fruit of love. If you are not a Christian and you are reading this, you may think there is no love in the world. Don’t measure religion against true Christianity. There is no comparison. Religion has no life. True Christianity is where love is found.
