The Great Commission and Our Healing

Most Christians have heard the term “the great commission” as the last words Jesus spoke to His followers. However, these words are much more important and powerful than being just words.

Matthew 28: 17-20: “When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and earth. Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”

Jesus was physically speaking to His eleven disciples, but a disciple is anyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Since the Word says that Jesus is “the same yesterday, today and forever” we know that He is talking to His people throughout the Age of Grace. That includes Christians in today’s era of time.

The very first thing Jesus said was “all authority has been given to Me in heaven and earth”. His death and resurrection gave Him authority over EVERYTHING in heaven and earth. This includes dominion over Satan and his hordes AND ALL physical, emotional and spiritual ailments for all of mankind until the end of the age. Why is this authority so important for healing? Because everything in creation MUST obey the Word of God, who is Jesus. Your physical body MUST obey or “line up” with the Word of God!

The second command He gave was “GO therefore, and MAKE disciples of ALL nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” After Jesus declares that He has ALL authority, He tells us to GO. He has transferred HIS authority to US! This commandment involves a lot more than just witnessing to people. How can you convince people that Jesus is real? Are they going to take your word for it? NO! They are persuaded by the works and miracles that first Jesus did and now has commanded us to do. When people see the power of God and the love of God in action by His people, they are always drawn to Him. He’s so easy to fall in love with! The “works” that Jesus did include healing the sick, casting out devils and raising the dead. He has commanded us to do the same to bring in the harvest of souls before the end of the age.

The third command He gave us was “Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you”. This of course is mentoring new believers and helping them to mature and become effective workers. The bottom line is souls. God wants everyone saved from hell, He loves everyone. It’s hard to believe that He could love some people but He does and everything He has said and done from Genesis through Revelation has one goal: to reach and save lost souls.

Jesus taught us in parables to help illustrate the importance of His messages. We use “the word of our testimony” to do the same. Here is a true story:

After I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, I decided that I would do my best to fulfill the Great Commission. I was an aerobics teacher and had a large turnover of people coming into my life. I was going through the Charles and Frances Hunter Healing School during this time and was very excited about the authority that Jesus had given me to heal the sick and bring them into the Kingdom of God. A young woman came through my class and was asking why her abdominals weren’t getting flatter with all the gut wrenching exercises I was putting her through. After talking and asking questions, she revealed that she was bulimic, which is a food addictive behavior where the person binges and then purges through vomiting or laxatives to maintain weight. When a person vomits, it distends their abdominals to where it doesn’t matter how hard you work them out, if you are vomiting, your belly is going to be big. She was embarrassed and crying and I asked her if she knew Jesus. She said she knew Him but was backslidden into the world. I told her that Jesus still loved her and wanted to heal her if she wanted Him to. She repented and recommitted her life to Him and I took authority over the spirit of addiction and bound it and cast it out. Then I spoke the healing power of Jesus into her physical body. Afterwards she was slain in the Spirit right there in my aerobics room (we were alone). After that, I didn’t see her for a couple of days, but she called me and told me that she had no more compulsions to binge and purge and she had joined the air force to start a new life and career. She thanked me for praying for her and for helping her to get free from that horrible addiction. I never saw her again, but I’m sure that Jesus healed her and restored her faith in Him and I’m sure that we’ll meet again on the other side.

The Great Commission is STILL in effect. It is an ONGOING commandment from our Lord and Savior. Jesus told His disciples on the Day of Pentecost to wait in Jerusalem for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and then GO into Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is essential to take authority of all the power of the enemy.

All Christians, no matter how “lowly” you may think you are, have ALL the same authority that Jesus had the day after His resurrection. Begin to walk in your authority and make yourself available to God to use to do the works that Jesus did: and that includes laying hands on the sick and seeing them recover. In so doing, word will get around and people will come into the Kingdom of God because of your faith. And souls will be added to the Kingdom of God.

Blessings everyone…
