“Many say, Oh, that we might see some good! Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord. You have put more joy and rejoicing in my heart than they know when their wheat and new wine have yielded abundantly. In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.” (Psalm 4:6-8)
Hope is the beginning of faith. The Bible says “faith is the substance of things HOPED for.” But hope isn’t confident, it’s just hopeful. “many say, oh, that we MIGHT see some good!” Hope is all that people have who don’t have an intimate relationship with the Lord.
Confidence is being fully persuaded in someone or something. Confidence comes from knowledge–intimate knowledge. They say that “knowledge is power.” Well it is true. To have knowledge of God in a personal relationship is the most powerful thing you will have in your life. Imagine living your life with such joy and rejoicing that it doesn’t matter whether you live in a 1 bedroom apartment or a mansion on Boardwalk. To have that kind of contentment is a treasure that most people don’t have.
David says “You have put more joy and rejoicing in my heart than they know when the wheat and new wine have yielded abundantly.” When people have a lot, they tend to forget the important things, the things that really matter. Because riches and the pride of life can literally change overnight and if you don’t have the foundation of a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe, you will be tossed about like a sailboat in the perfect storm.
“In PEACE, I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety and confident trust.” This one sentence is worth more than all the gold in the earth today. What profit is there if there is no peace? God is the only source of true peace and that peace can only come with the personal knowledge of Him as your source.
Are you just hoping things will work out today? Hoping that God will lift His countenance upon you or are you confident that He has your day all worked out before You even step out that door? Hope is the beginning of faith, but confidence is faith in full bloom–and faith is a prayer away.
Don’t know Him?
Blessings everyone…
