Lessons From A Psalm

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands!  Serve the Lord with gladness!  Come before His presence with singing! Know that the Lord is God!  It is He Who has made us, and not we ourselves!  We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise!  Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and praise His name!  For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.” (Psalm 100)

There is nothing passive about God.  He is action-oriented all the way.  This one psalm is full of verbs–actions that we do as part of worship to Him!

–Make a joyful noise – a joyful noise can be shouts of joy and praise or as in my case, a really bad singing voice!  Notice “all you lands.”  That means everyone everywhere, all over the world.  All of creation praises Him one way or another!

–Serve the Lord – serving the Lord is simply obeying what He tells you to do.  Obeying what He says in His Word–the Bible.  But more than that it is the attitude of the heart that God is really interested in.  He wants willing obedience born out of genuine love for Him rather than fear of judgment.

–Come before His presence – He has made a way for us to come boldly into His presence anytime we want to.  He did it through the Blood of Jesus on the Cross.  He loves hearing us sing songs to Him!

–Know the Lord is God – Have your understanding of who God is and every one of His many attributes residing in your spirit.  This is firmly grounded faith in Him and in all that He is to you for every situation life throws at you.  Be reminded that God is our creator and we were created for His pleasure–not our own.

–Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise – We are commanded to praise Him, we are commanded to give Him thanks.  The fact that you are up drinking your coffee and reading this post is enough to thank God for!  All of creation praises God because of the greatness of His power.

–Be thankful and say so to Him – Every good gift and every perfect gift comes from the Father of Lights.  In Him there is no variableness nor shadow of turning.  He has no evil motives towards us.  He is on our side!  He is in our court!  Isn’t that enough to be thankful for?  It’s good to be thankful, but say it out loud to Him.  It does something in the spirit-realm when we thank God for His many blessings!

It’s amazing what we can get out of one small psalm!

Blessings everyone…
