The Only Wise God

“The plans of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man, but from the Lord comes the wise answer of the tongue.  All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits (the thoughts and intents of the heart).  Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.” (Proverbs 16:1-3)

Our minds naturally tend to make plans and “to do” lists.  We love our projects.  Nobody spends more time planning things out than me!  I’ve got lists and spreadsheets for all kinds of things.  This is the “plans of the mind and orderly thinking” the Word is talking about.

In our minds eye, we are always the good guy.  Our motives are pure in our own eyes because we can justify any behavior to ourselves.  But we can’t fool God.  He alone can look into our hearts and see the reality of what we are doing.

As Christians, we are in a unique position to always make wise decisions in everything we do because we have access to the only wise God–Jesus Christ.  He knows the beginning and the end of all things.  Isn’t it wise to bring all of our plans to Him before we embark on them?  Yeah, but what if He says no?  If He says no, it’s because it is not a good plan and one that will hurt you in the end.

It all goes back to the level of intimacy you have with Him.  Close relationships naturally share plans and ask for advice.  If you don’t talk to God regularly or include Him in your every day decisions then you will do the things that are right in your own eyes and who knows where you’ll end up?  You could lose your shirt.

The Bible says to “roll your plans onto the Lord.”  He is the only wise God.  Every morning we wake up, we make the choice to include God in our every day decisions.  Today, make the choice to include Him.  It starts with a simple conversation that, over time, will develop into a beautiful relationship.  And that is what Christianity is all about–a relationship with God.

Don’t know Him?

Blessings everyone…
