Simple Gratitude

“He split rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink abundantly as out of the deep.  He brought streams also out of the rock [at Raphidim and Kadesh] and caused waters to run down like rivers.  Yet they still went on to sin against Him by provoking and rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness.

And they tempted God in their hearts by asking for food according to their selfish desire and appetite.  Yes, they spoke against God they said, Can God furnish the food for a table  in the wilderness?  Behold, He did smite the rock so that waters gushed out and the streams overflowed; but can He give bread also?  Can He provide flesh for His people?” (Psalm 78:15-20)

It is amazing to me that these people who God miraculously brought out of Egypt and supernaturally provided for them in the wilderness could be so hateful towards Him!  At every turn these people murmured and complained about everything God did.  At the slightest inconvenience they started to whine and rail against God and His servant Moses.

Their hearts were hard against the Lord.  They refused to have faith in Him.  The Psalm says “they tempted God IN THEIR HEARTS.” Truly a rebellious generation.  Notice this verse: “Can God furnish the food for a table in the wilderness?”  This was AFTER He hit the rocks and provided streams of water!  Their hearts were full of unbelief and rebellion towards the very One who rescued them.  Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

Out of the million people that God brought out of Egypt only two went in to the promised land.  Two.  Two people showed God they loved Him and believed Him.  So they received the promise.  Joshua and Caleb received the promise of the promised land.

People are the same today as they were then.  God can provide and provide and provide and they just aren’t grateful. They only want more.  That is an entitlement attitude and the world is full of that these days.  What can You do for me today God?  That’s not the way I want it done God.  My name is Jimmy now gimme gimme God!

I have seen God help people time and time again and it is strictly out of His mercy and the faithful prayers of others for them.  Then when He helps them, they don’t even acknowledge it.  Their attitude is still one of unbelief and fear.  It just goes to show me how much God loves us.  His mercies are truly amazing.

You want to know what really blesses the Most High?  Faith and trust.  When His children exhibit faith and trust in Him–in His abilities and more importantly His WILLINGNESS to help them, He will bless with more than enough, with decisive victories, with breakthrough after breakthrough.  The Word is clear: the humble eat the good of the land but the rebellious (doubting and rebellious) dwell in a dry land.

If your back is against the wall today, put your faith and trust in Him because He IS faithful and trustworthy.  Ask Him for help then believe He will do it and then stand in faith and wait for your breakthrough.  What have you got to lose?

Blessings everyone…
