“There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.” (Proverbs 20:30)
“Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD; and against His anointed saying “Let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us. He that sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall have them in derision.” (Psalm 2:1-4)
“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” (I Corinthians 1:25)
“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.” (I Corinthians 1:27)
This planet has had some brilliant minds down through the ages. We have all the wonderful conveniences of the industrial age through the brilliant minds of men and women. Incredible medical advances in all areas of medicine. Technology is growing so fast that we need a new computer every year it seems! Astute and powerful businessmen and women have grown mega businesses and even Pastors have grown mega-churches through their intellect. Hopefully the Pastors also had the anointing of the Lord!
But all of these brilliant minds taken together is still utter foolishness in comparison to how smart and how big and how wise our God is. The strongest man on the planet, the greatest army cannot defeat the Living God. With one breath of His nostril they would wither away as dust.
In the face of all these really smart people running around, thinking that God is dead or has never existed. Scoffing at the Blood of His Son and His ways. Declaring they are gods themselves. He sits in heaven and laughs in incredulity because they really don’t have a clue of the peril they are in. That is where you and I come in! We do have a clue. He needs us to pray for these people. Because you know what? He loves them so much. Even though they hate Him and deny His existence. He still loves them. He still died for their sins and He still wants them with HIM throughout eternity. Let’s face it folks..there but for the GRACE of God go you and I! We were all lost and headed for destruction until we met Jesus. They just haven’t met Him yet!
God has chosen the most foolish story to bring people to Him. Think about it. A baby conceived in a virgin’s womb supernaturally by Him. The Messiah, the Savior is born, grows up and lives a sinless life in word, thought and deed. Then He lays down His life for all mankind. He goes to Hell for us, then rises from the grave after three days. Then He ascends back up to heaven and is waiting to come back to rule and reign on the earth forever.
Trying to tell an atheist or an agnostic person this story will get you a lot of scorn and laughter, except for one thing–THE POWER OF GOD. It is the power of God that people cannot deny. Beloved, these are the days of the harvest. As Christians, we must daily pray for the lost and ask the Lord for opportunities to share this “foolish” Gospel with them–in the POWER of God!
