“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, measured heaven with a span and calculate the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?
Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD; or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge and show Him the way of understanding?
Behold, the nations are a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing!
To whom then shall you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him?…Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”
To whom then will you liken Me, or to whom shall I be equal? says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing.
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary, His understanding is unsearchable, He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like the eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Taken from Isaiah 40
If people could see God as He actually is, they would all fall on their faces before Him. Our finite minds can’t comprehend an infinite God. Moses was allowed to see His back as He passed by because seeing God’s face is so powerful it would kill him. God has chosen to reveal Himself through His Word and through the lives of the people who belong to Him.
Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we can approach the Creator of it all in boldness for help in time of trouble. We can meet Him in the cool of the day to fellowship with Him. We can cry out to Him when we are in the fire and the waters threaten to overflow us. What a wonderful gift salvation is!
It is His power working in us every day that gives us strength when we are weary and we can honestly say that “we shall mount up with wings as eagles, we shall run and not be weary and we shall walk and not faint!”
As you read Isaiah chapter 40, think about how very BIG your God is. The mountains in your life are nothing to Him. The Greater One lives BIG on the inside of you! He is the peacemaker and the waymaker. He is the source of all things in your life. Leave behind your way of doing things and choose HIS ways. He has the keys of victory.
