The Immortal Ones

“Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone further.  But they constrained Him saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.  And He went in to stay with them.  Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.  Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

And they said to one another, Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road; and while He opened the Scriptures to us?  So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”  And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.” (Luke 24:28-35)

How exciting it must have been for the followers of Jesus to see first-hand the evidence of His resurrection from the dead!  The Bible says that Jesus is the “firstborn from the resurrected dead.”  In other words, He is the first one to receive the immortal body that we all will receive on that day.  This passage gives us some insights into what we will be able to do when we received our immortal body.  I know that people who don’t know Jesus and don’t understand the Bible, will think this is ludicrous, but the Bible does say that the preaching of the gospel is foolishness to those who are in darkness.

There are a few things I have noticed in this scripture.

  1.  Jesus sat down and ate with them.  This scripture says “He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.”  Jesus is the Bread of Life.  Once they took the bread, their spiritual eyes were opened and they knew Him.  Once we receive Jesus into our hearts and we begin our relationship with Him, our spiritual eyes are opened and we know Him intimately.  Jesus shows us that we can eat food in our immortal body.
  2. He vanished from their sight.  Jesus shows us here that the immortal body is at home both in the spirit-world and in the natural world.  Travel is at the speed of thought.  His vanishing like He did showed the disciples that He had indeed rise from the dead.  It is a sign and a wonder.  The result was a solidifying of their faith.  Nobody could tell them they were wrong.  They knew what they had experienced!  They ran to the eleven disciples immediately and told them everything that had transpired.  They were witnesses of His resurrection.

When we hear that trumpet call for the Bride of Christ to be caught up to meet Him in the air, our mortal bodies will be changed to immortal and we will see Him as He is.  What a glorious day that will be!  To see our Jesus as He is!  Every day I can feel Him getting closer and closer to that call and I can hardly wait.  The only sad part is all the people I know and care about who do not know Him, will not hear the trumpet.  You too have lost loved ones.  Now is the time to pray as never before.  Time is running out.

Blessings everyone…
