“Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the lang of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD. Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.” (Deuteronomy 9:7-8)
The children of Israel that came up out of Egypt with Moses were very difficult to deal with. God performed miracle after miracle right before their very eyes. He even came out visibly for all to see. Yet, at the first bit of a challenge they forgot everything and yielded to fear. They soon forgot everything the LORD was doing for them. They refused to believe and trust in Him. Let’s face it, they just didn’t love Him.
Here are a few of the miracles that God did for them from Egypt to the promised land:
The Plagues in Egypt (Exodus chapters 7-12)
Parting the Red Sea (Exodus 12:21-31)
Bitter Waters Sweetened (Exodus 15:23-25)
Manna from Heaven (Exodus 16:14-35)
Water from the Rock at Rephidim (Exodus 17:5-7)
Miracle of the Brazen Serpent (Numbers 21:8-9)
These folks saw awesome sights that I can’t even imagine, yet they soon forgot everything He did for them; at every turn they were ready to stone Moses and Aaron. They got all the way to the promised land and refused to fight to take possession of it. They preferred to wander around in the wilderness for forty years rather that make the effort to take the promise of God.
But in reality these people were no different that we are today. God will work and work with someone. Bless them with supernatural provisions and healing. Set them free from oppression of the devil, restore their family–yet at the first sign of a delay, God is the bad guy. They say “why is God doing this to me?” Their hearts are full of unbelief. That is really the bottom line. They just don’t believe God. They don’t trust Him–in spite of everything He has done, they still don’t trust Him. How do I know this? Because I was just like this until I got to know Him intimately. It is the intimate relationship that changes our views from fear to faith.
It is the mistrust of His motives towards us that hurts His heart so. To actually believe that He is the author of good AND evil is a slap in the face to Him after He has poured out His love on us. That is why when God finds someone who loves Him for HIM, who doesn’t care if they have a mansion or live under a bridge. Someone who is content with a little or a lot as long as He is in their life. Someone who doesn’t care what it looks like, they still believe and trust He will work it all out to their good. That person is so loved by Him. So blessed. He will pour out His blessings more and more on a person like this.
When we can actually get our eyes off of ME and put them on Jesus, who is the Author and the Finisher of our faith, we can get into this position of blessing. God is a rewarder of those who DILIGENTLY seek Him. Those who believe His motives are good–all the time towards them. Those who trust Him in spite of the delay and the set backs. Those who continue to love Him and serve Him and work in His kingdom even if they never get what they are asking for. When we get to this position–BAM! The breakthrough will come because the enemy will see that we won’t be moved against God through his pressure. A person that doesn’t soon forget His blessings is highly valued by Him.
Blessings everyone…
