“Now faith is the assurance (title-deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].” (Hebrews 11:1 AMP)
Last night in church, we had a great discussion on faith. Hebrews 11:1 is the Bible’s definition of faith. The Amplified Bible breaks it down so beautifully. The two words that caught my eye are: TITLE DEED. Faith is the “title-deed” of things hoped for. Let’s look at how a title-deed works.
The dictionary’s definition of a title-deed is “a legal deed or document constituting evidence of a right, especially to ownership of property.” It is the evidence of a right to ownership. Nobody can legally take away your owned property when you have the title to it. It is wholly and completely yours. It is a guaranteed fact. It can be stolen but it will always be legally yours.
Now let’s apply this title-deed of faith to a faith stand. Suppose a mother has asked God to save her child who is lost or backslidden and away from God. God will say yes because His Word says :
“Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. {39} The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off–for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:38-39 NIV)
“They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved–you and your household.” (Acts 16:31 NIV)
The mother takes these two promises and believes them to be Truth. She speaks them back to God in FAITH. Her title deed–her guarantee from Him of her children’s salvation. She closes her eyes and sees her child reading the Bible or praying. She speaks and reads these two promises over and over again and as she does, faith builds in her spirit until she doesn’t care how bad it looks, she truly believes these two promises. They have become her “title-deed” of ownership. One day her child will call and say “hey Mom! I met Jesus today!
She took these two promises and applied them to her “here and now” because the very first words in Hebrews 11:1 are “NOW FAITH IS”. Now is where faith is. It has to be applied to the here and now to ensure the future lines up with the now. Faith is a journey to the hope that ignited the faith. Hope is the motivation to apply faith to a situation.
Faith says’ I’ve got nothing to lose by believing God” and moves on that faint hope to move a mountain. The Word of God says that all it takes is a mustard seed of faith to move an entire mountain into the sea.
If you are in a hopeless situation, let hope spark in your spirit. Get your Bible out and find the promises of God for victory. Write them down and read them and speak them out to God in your prayers every day. As you do, faith will grow and become the title-deed of your situation. You’ll KNOW that it is yours….
Blessings everyone…
