Nuggets From Isaiah 55

milk-and-honey

“Ho!  Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat.  Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.  Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?

Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.  Incline your ear, and come to Me, hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you–the sure mercies of David.  Indeed I given him as a witness to the people, a leader and commander for the people.  Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your God, and the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you.

Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.  For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and so not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.  Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name; for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” (Isaiah 55)

Isaiah chapter fifty-five is one of those chapters you can’t help but read the whole chapter because of the rich promises and encouragements it has.  It’s like trying not to eat a whole double-chocolate cake in one sitting…for me at least.  There are so many wonderful nuggets of Truth found in this one chapter.  Let’s break it down some.

  1. “Ho!  Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat.  Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.  Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?” (Isaiah 55:1-2) – True wealth is not found in the material things of this world.  He is talking about spiritual thirst and hunger, not the physical.  God told Moses that the promised land was flowing with milk and honey.  That meant is was abundant in provisions for health.  There is always a parallel between the spirit realm and the natural realm.  When we are rich in our spiritual lives, we will naturally have plenty of provisions in the natural realm.  That is not to say we’ll have millions of dollars in the bank but we will not lack.  We will have more than enough.
  2. “Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.  Incline your ear, and come to Me, hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you–the sure mercies of David.  Indeed I given him as a witness to the people, a leader and commander for the people.  Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your God, and the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you.” (Isaiah 55:2b-5) – Here the LORD is going further in instructing us HOW to buy HIS wine, milk and bread.  On the surface these verses are promises to the nation of Israel.  It is a prophecy yet to be fulfilled.  One day ALL nations will run to Israel to worship the God of Israel.  The Holy One of Israel.  Dig a little deeper and it is a promise to everyone who pursues God in the intimate relationship.  He says “eat what is good” and “incline your ear” and “come to Me.”  This is a personal invitation to everyone who reads this passage to come to Him and find that intimate relationship that He longs to have with everyone who will come.
  3. “Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6-7) – This is a perfect description of the age of grace we are currently living in.  Now is the time when He can be found.  He is near to everyone in the age of grace.  Repentance is the call going out these days.  Looking at the storm clouds gathering over the earth, its easy to see that the age of grace is coming to a close.  He is still standing with outstretched arms calling to His children to return or come to Him for salvation.  The Bible says that His “mercy is everlasting.”  He is an abundant God.  He abundantly pardons, He abundantly loves and He abundantly provides all good things for His children who come to Him.
  4. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.  For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and so not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:8-11) – We tend to equate God’s thoughts and ways on an equal plane as ours but it isn’t.  He has the ability to see far above us.  He can see how our lives intertwine with those around us to bring His purposes together.  He can see the end of every potential choice we make and because He can, He’ll warn us to not make the wrong choice–if we will listen.  He has an overall plan for mankind that every person plays a role in.  If you think you are insignificant in God’s plan, think again.  You play a crucial role that impacts the lives of others.  God’s WORD spoken out into the earth goes out to accomplish exactly what God intends it to.  That is why it is so powerful for us to speak the scriptures OUT LOUD.  The spoken Word of God is an incredibly powerful change agent in God’s plan.
  5. “For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.  Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name; for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” (Isaiah 55:12-13) – On the surface this passage is for the nation of Israel, that is a prophecy not fully fulfilled.  The nation of Israel is a very abundant nation.  I was there in 2013 and it literally has fields of produce in the deserts.  There are vendors all over the place selling fresh fruit juice to people.  The buffets in the hotel I stayed at were laden with all kinds of foods.  The very atmosphere seemed charged with God’s favor.  It was so amazing to me that a country surrounding by threats of death could have so much peace.  Again on a deeper level this promise is for all those who seek God’s face in their personal lives.  Seeking Him FIRST, not as a once a week duty.  These blessings and promises are for anyone who dares to pursue the intimate relationship with the God of Israel.

Father, I pray for each person reading these nuggets.  That You would set a fire in their soul–a fire that will burn hotter and brighter with each passing day.  Help us all find You in this time–the time You can be found.  In Jesus’ Name I ask..Amen and Amen!

Blessings everyone…
