Less Love

“Write to the angel of the church of Ephesus and say, “Here is the message of the One who holds the seven stars in His right hand and who lives surrounded by the seven golden lampstands: “I know all about you; how hard you work and how much you put up with. I know you cannot stand wicked men and how you tested impostors who called themselves apostles and proved they were liars. I know, too, that you have patience, and have suffered for My name without growing tired.
Nevertheless, I have this complaint to make; you have LESS LOVE now than you used to. Think where you were before you fell; repent, and do as you used to at first, or else, if you will not repent, I shall come to you and take your lamp-stand from its place. It is in your favour, nevertheless, that you loathe as I do what the Nicolaitans are doing. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches; those who prove victorious I will feed from the tree of life set in God’s paradise.” (Revelation 2:1-7) (Jerusalem Bible)
The church at Ephesus were strong Christians. They had been through many battles and were standing strong…except the years of battle had caused a diminishing of their agape love that the Father had shed abroad in their hearts. What does this tell us today? We are living in the last days where, we too, have been in many battles. Jesus words are still speaking to us from the pages of Revelation: “think where you were before you fell.”
The phrase “before you fell” is very telling. When we allow our level of agape love to diminish, we have fallen in the eyes of our Lord Jesus. Agape must be built upon line by line and precept upon precept. Agape love is a choice. It is something we must watch carefully. As believers, we must take inventory of our hearts regularly to gauge how closely we are conforming to the image of Jesus Christ. The Bible says to “examine our hearts.”
Beloved, today, take some time to examine your hearts and let Jesus help you get back on track…I know I am.
Blessings everyone…
