Proverbs 18 Nuggets of Wisdom

Today is September 18th and I was drawn to Proverbs 18. I used to read a chapter of Proverbs every day because there are thirty-one chapters in it that correspond to each day of the month. Every morning when I’m having my coffee, I ask the Lord what He wants to talk about from His Word. Today it is Proverbs 18. Here are the nuggets of Wisdom I received today. Taken from the Amplified Bible.
Proverbs 18:1 “He who willfully separates and estranges himself [from God and man] seeks his own desire and pretext to break out against all wise and sound judgment.” ~ I’m ashamed to say that I have done this very thing and ran straight into a disaster that lasted ten years. It is like knowing you have the solution to your problem but continuing to look for it anyway in other places. Anything that is “willful” is rebellion and the Bible says the rebellious dwell in a dry land. I can attest to that. It is horrible to be away from the Living God. Don’t let life’s frustrations cause you to do anything that is willfully contrary to God’s Word and will for your life.
Proverbs 18:4 “The words of a [discreet and wise] man’s mouth are like deep waters (plenteous and difficult to fathom), and the fountain of skillful and godly Wisdom (Holy Spirit) is like a gushing stream [sparkling, fresh, pure, and life-giving].” ~ All throughout Proverbs Wisdom is always capitalized. This shows that Wisdom is God Himself. The Spirit of Wisdom is one of the seven-fold spirits of the Holy Spirit of God. A WISE man is full of the Holy Spirit, which is where the fountain of his wisdom comes. Dwelling in an intimate relationship with the Lord releases this fountain in your life. You become a place where the weary ones come for help and comfort and words of wisdom. How beautiful is a stream of pure and fresh water that is sparkling in the sun! It is pleasant all the way around. Open your heart to the Spirit of Wisdom and become that beautiful stream that the lost can come and find Him.
Proverbs 18:10 “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong.” ~ The name of God: Jesus, is the name every knee must bow to and every tongue confess that He is Lord. There isn’t a creature in the entire universe that will not do this. His name is exalted above ALL principalities and powers and dominions and kingdoms. If His name is that high, then it is indeed a strong tower and fully capable of keeping the children of the Lord safe, high and strong! There is one caveat though. The name is reserved for the righteous ones who are in right standing with God. These are the people who have bowed the knee and confess Jesus as Lord and He dwells in their hearts. They are the ones that are considered righteous in God’s eyes. The other point is that the righteous ones must take action and take refuge in His name. This is a trust issue that requires an intimate relationship. You cannot trust someone you don’t know well. The Bible says “all who call upon the NAME of the Lord shall be saved” so call on Him today!
Proverbs 18:19 “A brother offended is harder to be won over than a strong city, and (their) contentions separate them like the bars of a castle.” ~ This happens a lot in families, where an offense brings estrangement for sometimes decades. Some people go to their graves with offense stuck in their heart like a lance. A person who refuses to let go of the offense is going to live in strife and a curse will rest on their life. Jesus said it plainly that we are not to hold offense with anyone. Our duty as believers is to LOVE. Period. Offense is illegal in the Kingdom of God and to partake of it is to set yourself outside the Kingdom of God and into Satan’s territory. The Bible says where there is strife, there is every evil work and this is very true. We can’t help sometimes if someone is offended at us. Sometimes people just want to be offended, they just don’t want to get along with us. We can only pray for the light of the Gospel to be illuminated to them. People were offended at Jesus too, and He just kept on doing what God called Him to do. That is what we must do as well.
Proverbs 18:20 “A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].” ~ A truer statement has never been said! How many times have I eaten bad fruit from the words of my mouth. We have to be aware of our words. The truth of this goes back to the creation story in Genesis 1. God created everything with the Word, Who is Jesus. There nothing created that wasn’t created by His Word (Jesus). We are created in His image, which means that we too create with our words. After the fall, and negativity entered the world, we have a choice every moment to speak words of life or words of death. He has laid out the choices and He won’t force us to do the right thing. He simply says” CHOOSE LIFE.” Begin today to speak words of life into your life. Instead of saying “I’m broke” say thank You Lord that all my needs are met according to Your riches in glory!” Instead of saying “I’m dying of cancer” say “thank You Lord for healing me because I know that I shall not die, but live to declare Your glory!” What have you got to lose by speaking words of life? Not a thing.
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]” ~ Death and life. These are the two choices we all will make today. It is literally in the words we speak that determines our future circumstances. Words are seeds that we plant in our field of life. If we say “Thank You Lord that I’m blessed and highly favored,” we will see that come to pass in our lives. If we say “nobody ever gives me a break” or “I always catch a cold every year,” then that is what we shall see come to pass in our future. Plant seeds of life in your garden. God wants to richly bless your garden!
Blessings everyone…
