“Be careful that you never allow your hearts to grow cold. Remain passionate and free from anxiety and the worries of this life. Then you will not be caught off guard by what happens. Don’t let Me come and find you drunk or careless in living like everyone else. For that day will come as a shocking surprise to all, like a downpour that drenches everyone, catching many unaware and unprepared.
Keep a constant watch over your soul (mind, will emotions), and pray for the courage and grace to prevail over these things that are destined to occur and that you will stand before the presence of the Son of Man with a clear conscience.” (Luke 21:34-36 Passion Translation Bible)
The Bible calls the path to eternal life “the narrow way.” To follow Jesus Christ is to live carefully, not carelessly. He is very intentional, so we must live very intentional in everything we do. He gives a stern warning to us that completely blows away the “greasy grace” doctrine so popular today. He said, “Don’t let Me come and find you drunk or careless in living.”
I ponder on my life these days with Him and marvel at how narrow it has become compared to just a few years ago. I am discovering the closer you get to Him in intimacy, the less the worldly things appeal to you. He must be your consuming passion to live in this wicked world. He did not come to just give a ticket out of Hell. His purchase includes so much more!
Don’t think that walking on the narrow road is causing you to “miss out” on life. On the contrary, real living is found on the narrow road. I’ve had people tell me that if they can’t have a spouse, then they just don’t want to live on the earth anymore. I marvel at this thinking because I’m alone and a husband is not in my future, but God has completely filled up my life with HIM. He’s way better than a human being can ever be as far as I’m concerned.
It’s not hard to guard your heart when you are passionately in love with Him. When He is number one, it just flows naturally. The key is to pursue Him every day deeper and deeper. We must live like He is coming today not fifty years from now when our natural life is over. Today is the day that counts.
If you are reading this and realize you have been living carelessly, then make the decision today to turn up the heat of your passion for Jesus Christ. Get back on the narrow road and let Him fill your life to overflowing with His plans and purposes. I promise you won’t regret it!
Don’t know Him?
