“But the one who always listens to Me will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace. Free from fear, confident and courageous, you will rest unafraid and sheltered from the storms of life.” (Proverbs 1:33 TPT)
Don’t you love the promises of God? What are the promises revealed in this one verse?
- Living undisturbed in a heavenly peace

- Confident
- Courageous
- Sheltered from the storms of life
So many times we claim the promises and forget about what we must do to attain the promises. All these promises are ours IF we ALWAYS listen to God. If we obey His Word and obey His instructions to us. Is this impossible? No, because God’s Word says that “all things are possible to him who BELIEVES.”
I’m very goal driven. I always want to know HOW to achieve something. How does this work and how can I do this? That is the way I approach the Word of God. Here are the promises and I want them. How can I attain them? I like to break things down into tasks or a “to do” list. It somehow helps me get my mind around a principle.
“The one who ALWAYS listens” is the key statement in this scripture. Always and never are two words that seem to be impossible. For example, “I’ll never eat sugar again!” seems to be an impossibility considering everything has sugar in it, or “I will always save my money every week.” This too seems impossible because of life’s unexpected twists and turns. So the statement “the one who always listens” also seems impossible. So how can we always listen to God?
Listen isn’t just hearing the words, it is HEEDING the words, obeying the words. For example, the first command in the old and new covenants is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.” This is an “always” command. It isn’t just reading the words and then going on with your life. To listen to God is to obey God.
In order to always listen to God, you must put value on Him. Ask yourself this question: Do I value God’s presence in my life? Is He a priority for me in my everyday life? Do I wake up hungry to seek Him out? If you answered yes, then you are in a position to attain these promises because it is in the intimate relationship where the “always” happens.
God is always looking for people who want an intimate friendship with Him. That is why He created mankind in the first place. His desire for fellowship with us has never wavered, no matter how evil and selfish we have been. It is possible to always listen to Him when He is the number one priority in your life. People do what they want to do; what they desire to do. If you value God’s presence in your life, you will pursue Him. If you value only what He can give you, you will miss out on the greatest relationship of your life.
I challenge you to take thirty days and begin to pursue Him, just for the sake of being with Him. How can you do this?
- Take fifteen minutes first thing in the morning even if you have to get up a little early. What is fifteen minutes?
- Spend the first five minutes thanking Him for everything in your life.
- Spend the second five minutes reading His Word out loud. Begin in the Psalms.
- Spend the last five minutes just talking to Him like He is sitting in front of you. Easy conversation.
- Get a journal and write down the things He says or insights you get from the Bible.
You will be amazed at what God begins to do in your life. You will notice an uncommon peace come into your life. You will notice that peace when the storms of life blow upon you. Storms are a given in our lives, but God has great promises for us to live in during these times.
