A Sign of the Times

“For the time will come when people will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, have ears itching for something pleasant and gratifying, they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold, and will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions.” (II Timothy 4:3-4)

The subject of the end times is controversial, to say the least, especially among Christians.  Some people believe we are decades away from the return of Jesus Christ, others say it’s imminent.  The Bible says that no one knows the day or hour, but we have plenty of signs that the earth is groaning and the birth pangs are increasing in intensity.  Earthquakes all over the place, Tsunami threats, volcanoes erupting, even flesh-eating bacteria in the oceans that are killing people.    Christian persecution is exploding worldwide.

As believers, we are commanded to watch and pray. We are also supposed to be working the harvest fields of our realm of influence until the trumpet sounds.  The Apostle Paul told Timothy that in the last days’ people would not tolerate or believe the truth, but would rather chase after teachings that support their sinful lifestyle choices.  I’m seeing this prophecy being fulfilled more and more with the forums and groups on Social Media.  In times past, there were relatively few who openly challenged the Word of God and its relevance in society, but now with Social Media and no one having to talk face to face, the true motives and beliefs of people are becoming evident.

A prime example of this is the “Christian” Facebook groups.  It doesn’t matter which group you join, there is always intense discussion on the Truth of God’s Word, with some people challenging God’s Word on sins of the flesh like sexual sins.  When you try to share the Truth with them, they won’t tolerate it.  They accuse people of being “holier than thou” or “religious.”  These are supposed Christians who refuse to submit to God’s Word in basic areas!  On the flip side are the lost who are even harder to reach now because they see no power in the “Church.”

I’m starting to see the separation of the wheat and the tares that Jesus talked about.  For generations, they have grown up together but the closer we get to His return the more evident it becomes the differences in the Bride of Christ and the apostate church.  The Bible predicts a great falling away and that falling away is in progress right now.

What is the evidence of this?  Headlines are all over the place of Pastors being jailed for child pornography, child rape, and sex trafficking.   Sting operations of sex trafficking uncover prominent church leaders buying sex.  The lack of sound doctrine being preached in churches across the country with some churches even serving alcohol in their lobbies!  The doctrines they want to hear are “everyone ends up in heaven” and “God is love”  or “hell is a metaphor.”  The most popular is “Jesus paid for your sins, so you can continue to do it.”

What is the result of all this lack of sound doctrine from the pulpit?  People will not tolerate it when someone tells them the truth of what God’s Word says.  Their worldview is that of the world system of morality.  There is no evidence of change that Jesus requires of His followers.  They just “said the prayer” and got their ticket to heaven.  It grieves my heart to see such callousness to the ways of God and the lack of relationship that is required to enter the Kingdom of God.  A whole new mission field is emerging.  It’s not just the lost, it’s now the lukewarm and the apostate.

Should we stop telling the truth?  Should we just focus on ourselves and our own salvation?  Should we turn our backs on them and count them as done for?  No.  Jesus has not given up on them and neither should we.  We should continue to pray for them, love them and speak the truth to them.  What does this look like in practice?  Since most of our interactions are on Social Media, we can display the love of God through soft words, kindness, respect and speaking the Word of God.  The motive of our heart should always be love.  There is no force greater than Agape love of God on full display by His people.

Beloved, be encouraged to keep on sowing God’s Word into your realm of influence.  Let God’s love be on full display in your life and you will begin to notice that people who you thought were hopelessly deceived, begin to turn around through your prayers and your Agape love!

Blessings everyone…
